What color should I paint my floor?
I have pine floors under ugly carpet in my dining room. I painted my chairs and my dry sink black. I have a area rug for under the table but it will not reach the dry sink. I was all set to paint my floor black but now I am not sure it will look right under my dry sink. Does anyone have any ideas for me? My walls are cream, and I have painted my crown molding black. All my picture frames are also black.
That will depend on the look you are going for. Couple of things to keep in mind. Painting the floor black will give a more contemporary feel. The darker color will also give the floor the weight it deserves in a room (think of dark hardwood floors). If your rug is black then it allow the floor to visually continue to the dry sink. If the rug is light then it will create contrast which can be good too.
You could also paint the floors cream to match the walls. This will give a more airy traditional feel (think of white tile) The light color will help the room feel larger. If your rug is black again you will have a high contrast and if it is light, it will allow the visual continuation to the dry sink.
High contrast may be good between the rug and the floor if you really like the design in the rug. Although do think about how long you intend to keep the rug with wear and tear. Will it be changed often? The color of the floor may stick around longer than the rug. But if you are painting, as opposed to staining, then that too is easy enough to change.
